India to launch clavulanic acid manufacturing plant

It is used in medicines that treat bacterial infections

India’s Secretary Department of Pharmaceuticals Ministry of Chemical and Fertilisers, Arunish Chawla, has announced the imminent launch of a plant for the production of Clavulanic Acid, which is essential for the production of the antibiotic used in the treatment of various bacterial infections.

She said the initiative to incentivise mass production of medicines has attracted significant investment and India will now start manufacturing penicillin G and clavulanic acid.

Chawla stressed that about half of the antibiotics in the market belong to the beta-lactam groups, derived mainly from penicillin G and clavulanic acid. This is reported by

Earlier, Indian research team analysed data from 10,000 patients with 33 types of cancer from the Cancer Genome Atlas, investigating the role of Kindlins in disease progression.
