India will allocate US$1 million to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre to support the conservation and development of World Heritage sites, especially in the Global South. This is reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

The announcement was made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the opening of the 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

This is the first time India is hosting a meeting of the Committee, which is responsible for managing the World Heritage List.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that India has managed to recover more than 350 heritage items from abroad and celebrated the nomination of the historic Maidam in north-east India for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The meeting also includes the World Heritage Young Professionals’ Forum, the World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum, and various exhibitions showcasing India’s cultural heritage, the source said.
