India establishes the Secretariat of the Global Biofuels Alliance

It will provide a platform to showcase the country’s achievements in biofuel technologies

India has entered into a Host Country Agreement (HCA) with the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), an initiative launched at the G20 summit in 2023 to promote the use of biofuels around the world. This is reported by
Trinity Mirror, a partner of TV BRICS.

The document envisages the establishment of a GBA Secretariat in India. It will provide an opportunity for Indian and international experts to deepen co-operation on biofuel technologies at a global level. In addition, the Secretariat will provide jobs for Indian experts and provide a platform to showcase the country’s achievements in this field.

As part of the agreement, GBA will also receive the necessary legal privileges to enable the alliance to operate effectively under Indian law.

The Global Biofuels Alliance has already united 27 member countries and 12 international organisations that will work together to address issues related to feedstock availability, infrastructure development and biofuel promotion. The GBA will also work on the development of common technical standards, unified certification and standardisation of biofuel quality.

The creation of GBA was one of the priorities of India’s G20 presidency. The alliance focuses on strengthening markets, facilitating global biofuels trade and providing technical support to national biofuels programmes around the world.
