IFP has to audit branches ahead of 2025 elective conference: Analyst

Political Analyst Sandile Swana says that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) will need to perform a proper audit of its branches before it can go to its elective conference next year.

Swana says this will ensure that dual membership and infiltration is dealt with.

The IFP, led by Velenkosini Hlabisa, was meant to host its elective conference this year to choose a new leader.

However, the party has confirmed that its elective conference will be held between July and August next year.

Swana elaborates, “One of the big things that they have to deal with is the proper auditing of the branches. Once the power struggles within the IFP, contesting for instance for the position left taking over from Buthelezi, people could create fake branches and do all sorts of things to try win the election away from Velenkosini Hlabisa. There is also the phenomenon now that has emerged lately of dual membership, where a person can be a member of one party and another one.”
