The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India has decided to allow higher education institutions to admit students twice a year, in January/February and July/August, starting from the next academic year, reports

The source also informs us that UGC rules currently allow higher education institutions to admit students for one academic session per year, starting in July/August.

In India, the “Academic Session” is 12 months long. Hence, universities follow the academic session, which starts in July/August and ends in May/June.

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of UGC, emphasised that if Indian universities can offer admission twice a year, it will benefit many students. For example, those who missed university admission in the July/August session due to a delay in the declaration of exam results, health problems, or personal reasons.

This university admission will also help students stay motivated, as they will not have to wait for a whole year to get admission if they miss admission in the current cycle.

An act of the Indian Parliament established the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1956 with the goal of coordinating, establishing, and upholding standards for research, examinations, and teaching in higher education. This organisation is now regarded as a crucial pillar of the university system.
