Police in KwaZulu-Natal say there is a high level deployment in and around the Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium where the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) will be celebrating its first anniversary.
Thousands of supporters from various parts of the country are expected to be in attendance.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says they are working closely with various agencies.
“As for all the other events, the planning for such events starts weeks ahead we don’t leave it last minute. You know we’ve never had any incidents in major events in this province because we plan proactively.
“So our meeting with organises and security agencies started weeks ago just to ensure that everything is not left out for the last minute, so deployments will be focusing on routes to the stadium. Also in and around the stadium, we also want to prevent criminality, we want to ensure that people will be in attending will not be affected by any form of criminality, we want to ensure zero tolerance on criminality,” he adds.
MK Party rally preparations in full swing:
Meanwhile, the MK party says it is only providing busses for its KwaZulu-Natal-based supporters to the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Thousands of party supporters are expected to attend the party’s 1st anniversary celebration rally.
The MK party became South Africa’s official opposition party following the May 29th general elections and the formation of the GNU which included the DA.
The DA had been the official opposition until it joined the GNU. Briefing the media earlier this week, party secretary general Floyd Shivambu says the party will not be bussing in supporters from outside of the province to the rally.
