African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has paid tribute to former Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
Gordhan died in hospital this morning following a short battle with cancer.
Mbalula says Gordhan was a man of integrity.
“In government, he became an activist, a champion of anti-graft and corruption. And when time called upon a person to take a stand, Pravin Gordhan was one such. You knew where you stood with him. He was no fake, no plastic. Pravin Gordhan was not a pushover, one thing for sure. I worked with him as a colleague in Cabinet. He was an intellectual. He was not swayed by what was said around him and very firm in his beliefs.”

“Profound loss”
Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) Secretary-General Apa Pooe has described Gordhan’s death as a profound loss.
Pooe says that South Africans should recommit themselves to the values that were championed by Gordhan.
“On behalf of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), we express our deepest condolences on the passing of former Minister Pravin Gordhan. His departure marks a profound loss not only for his family and loved ones but for the nation as a whole. In this time of mourning, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his work. May they find comfort in the memories of his life and the impact he made in the pursuit of a just and equitable society.”
“A dedicated public servant”
ActionSA Spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni says Gordhan’s contribution to the country’s political and economic landscape has been considerable.
“Action SA sends our deepest condolences on the passing of former Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan, whose dedication as a public servant and whose contribution to South Africa’s political and economic landscape over five decades can not be overstated. May his family be comforted at this time and may his soul rest in peace.”
