FS Premier’s office concerned about newspaper report

Free State Premier’s Office says they have noted with concern a newspaper report that they believe is in contravention of the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.

The report says Acting premier Jabu Mbalula is insolvent and under debt administration, and was appointed without a proper vetting process.

It says Mbalula allegedly did not disclose the information when he was appointed as Community Safety, Roads and Transport MEC.

The Premier’s spokesperson Matshidiso Setai says he will seek legal advice on the way forward.

Setai also says  Mbalula subjected himself to the vetting process and was cleared to serve as a member of provincial legislature.

She says at the beginning of every new administration the provincial legislature is tasked with vetting all members.
