The Moscow International Film Week took place in the Russian capital. TV BRICS was the international media partner of the event.

The festival was attended by dozens of film industry representatives from 47 countries, including Egypt, UAE, India, China, Mexico, Nigeria, Thailand and South Africa.

The programme included feature films, documentaries and animated films. In addition, there were panel discussions and round tables where Russian and foreign filmmakers could exchange experience, contacts and find new opportunities for co-operation.

According to South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Peace Mabe, the Moscow International Film Week embodies the spirit of BRICS.

“It is a unique platform where multiple countries can exchange experiences in the creative industries. This event is BRICS in action,” the Deputy Minister said.

In turn, the head of the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow Alexey Fursin believes that the event gives Russian cinema an opportunity to win a new audience.

“It is important to build a system of relationships that will allow without barriers to enter any market where there is a demand for our creative product,” said Alexey Fursin.

Against the background of the general diversity of countries and genres, Indian cinema, including Bollywood productions released in Hindi language, attracted special attention of the guests and participants of the event. Tollywood films in Telugu language were also presented. This stratum of Indian culture is less familiar to mass audiences.

“Indian cinema is as diverse as the culture and traditions of this country are rich: from region to region, the stylistics, themes of films, and their presentation change. As time goes by, we will hear more and more about Telugu language cinema – Tollywood. Moscow International Film Week gives us an opportunity to learn about such hidden gems,” said Aleksandra Burman, Head of TV BRICS South Asia and Middle East Department.

Moscow International Film Week took place from 23-28 August with the support of the Moscow City Government and the Agency for Creative Initiatives, a partner of TV BRICS.
