Experts discuss role of AI in oil and gas industry during Moscow-Kazan-Russia teleconference

The participants of the meeting considered the peculiarities of working on international markets

The Moscow-Kazan-Russia teleconference, held in the format of a strategic meeting, was dedicated to the topic “Export potential and the role of digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) in increasing the operational efficiency of oil and gas companies in international markets, including the markets of the global South”. TV BRICS was the media partner of the event.

The session brought together the heads of production companies in the oil and gas sector, as well as experts working in the field of AI implementation in the industry.

During the discussion, the participants focused on the transformation of the oil and gas industry, as well as the peculiarities of working in international markets, including the Middle East and Africa. Special attention was paid to the topics of strategic security and the need to ensure technological sovereignty.

Vladimir Gamza, Member of the Board of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Chairman of the CCI Council for Financial, Industrial and Investment Policy, spoke at the event. He emphasised the importance of such strategic meetings for the development of the industry.

“Discussing the export potential of the Russian oil and gas sector in international markets, including those of the Global South, and the importance of using artificial intelligence and digitalisation to improve efficiency and competitiveness comes to the fore when we discuss the country’s technological sovereignty and future,” he said.

First Deputy Chairman of the Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Artur Nikolaev, for his part, pointed to the problems associated with automation and IT systems, including redundant data that is not always used effectively. He stated the need to develop joint approaches to data exchange and technology implementation.

Ayrat Farrakhov, State Duma deputy for budget and taxes, who also took part in the discussion, emphasised the importance of creating an inter-industry system for AI implementation. Anton Poddubsky, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), expressed a similar opinion.

“The development of a new system is impossible without training in working with AI products, creating industry databases, both for young personnel and adults,” Poddubsky said.

The teleconference was organised by the Expert Council on Investment Projects and Artificial Intelligence Development of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. The event was supported by the Union “Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan”, “Expert. Centre of Analytics” (“Expert North-West” – business analytical magazine published since 1999) and others.
