Eugene Modise elected as Tshwane’s new Deputy Mayor

African National Congress (ANC) caucus leader Eugene Modise has been elected as Tshwane’s new Deputy Mayor.

Modise was elected unopposed during a special council sitting earlier today. He replaces ActionSA councillor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, who resigned from the position after being elected mayor earlier this month.

Modise, who is also the current Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for finance, steps into the role just days after Mayor Moya announced her mayoral committee, which includes five ANC councillors, two from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and one each from GOOD and ActionSA.

Former Democratic Alliance (DA) Mayor Cilliers Brink, who was ousted in a vote of no confidence, along with several members of the former DA-led coalition, did not attend the special sitting.
