Ethiopia’s Agriculture Minister outlines three new sector strategies

The country’s Minister of Agriculture, Girma, said the strategies are central to Ethiopia’s commitment to food security and sovereignty

Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amante, emphasised that the new agricultural strategies focused on transforming food systems in Ethiopia are a fundamental indicator of the country’s commitment to food security and nutrition.

In conducting the initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture presented three key strategies: National Food Safety and Quality Strategy for Primary Agricultural Produce, National Nutrition Sensitive Agrifood Systems Strategy, and Post-Harvest Management Strategy.

Minister Girma emphasised that these strategies are central to ensuring food security, improving health and expanding economic prosperity, as well as being a means of supporting the living standards of the population. This is reported by
ENA.

About 30% per cent of food in developing countries is lost between production and consumption, so one of the most important strategies is to minimise losses.
