Ethiopian government implements digital strategy to increase internet access

The programme will enable 35% of Ethiopia’s population to have higher levels of internet access

Ethiopia is taking important steps towards a digital future with the launch of its five-year strategy that aims to narrow technology gaps and ensure equal access to technological resources for all citizens.

The initiative, discussed at an event hosted by the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MINT) and the International Labour Organisation, will promote digital literacy and encourage entrepreneurship in the country.

The government intends to increase internet access from 35 per cent of the population to a much higher level to guarantee accessibility, according to
Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.

The strategy will promote the use of technology as a tool for social justice. With the support of the government and international partners, Ethiopia aims to become a leader in inclusive digital growth.
