Ethiopia unveils digital agriculture roadmap to drive sector transformation

A key aspect of the roadmap is the use of smartphone technology to provide farmers with real-time agricultural insights

Ethiopia has launched its Digital Agriculture Roadmap, a long-term strategy to modernise the agricultural sector and enhance productivity through digital innovation. This is reported by
Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.

Developed by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute, the roadmap sets out a digital integration plan spanning from 2025 to 2032.

The unveiling event brought together Ethiopia’s senior officials, including Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente and Minister of Innovation and Technology Belete Molla.

Expanding on the progress of the Digital Agriculture Extension and Advisory Roadmap introduced in 2022, the new strategy aims to build a more efficient, data-driven farming ecosystem. Minister Girma Amente underscored the critical role of digitalisation in making agriculture more competitive and accessible, aligning with Ethiopia’s broader economic goals.

A key aspect of the roadmap is the use of smartphone technology to provide farmers with real-time agricultural insights, improving access to essential inputs, financial services, and market information.

Additionally, the initiative will centralise agricultural data management, streamline resource distribution, and strengthen coordination across the value chain.

Minister Belete Molla highlighted that digital agriculture is a core component of Ethiopia’s national digital transformation agenda. By leveraging technology and data-driven decision-making, the country aims to accelerate agricultural efficiency and long-term sectoral growth, as reported by the source.
