Ethiopia plants 6 million seedlings in 168 regions of the capital city
The actions are part of Ethiopia’s Green Heritage Programme
The Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, said the city’s residents are actively participating in the national tree planting programme. The mayor also personally participated in the tree planting along with other officials. This is reported by
Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), a partner of TV BRICS.
She noted that residents are planting saplings on a total area of 250 hectares in 168 different districts of the capital.
Adanech Abiebie highlighted the success of Ethiopia’s Green Heritage Programme, which has been running for five years. During this time, the forest area in Addis Ababa has increased significantly, from 2.8 per cent in 2019 to 20 per cent in 2023.
The mayor stressed that the programme not only improves the environment but also contributes to the economic development of the city and the whole country.
According to her, the rooting rate of planted trees in Addis Ababa is 86 per cent, which is a significant result.
