Ethiopia introduces new electronic passport
Ethiopia has taken a major step forward with the introduction of the new electronic passport designed and manufactured domestically. The passport is equipped with advanced security features and modern technology. This was announced by Ethiopian President Taye Atskeselassie at the inauguration ceremony held at the Science Museum, as reported by
ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
Taye Atskeselassie emphasised that the introduction of this advanced security document is a significant achievement. He also noted that the e-passport plays an important role in preventing fraud and facilitating the movement of people.
Selamawit Dawit, Immigration and Citizenship Service Director-General, explained that the e-passport contains biometric information including fingerprints, facial recognition data, and an electronic chip.
The internal pages of the passport are decorated with images showcasing Ethiopia’s heritage and historical sites, and its design and colour scheme are different from the previous model. The passport has been internationally recognised.
