Electoral Court dismisses Khumalo’s application for leave to appeal

The Electoral Court has dismissed Jabulani Khumalo’s application for leave to appeal.

Khumalo sought to overturn an earlier judgment of the Electoral Court that dismissed his application against the IEC for his removal as the leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

In a judgment dated 4 October, the court dismissed the application with costs.

In June, Khumalo lost his bid to be re-instated as party leader.

The specialist court cited that his application constitutes an abuse of the court’s processes and a waste of judicial economy and the opposing respondents’ resources.

The judgment has since been welcomed by the MK Party.
