Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said that the country’s digital strategy is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

He emphasised that there are plans to increase the number of mobile towers to improve the quality of communication in these localities. These projects are being implemented through public-private partnership, as reported by
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

These comments were made during a panel discussion on economic transformation and digital innovation opportunities at Second Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF), held in Bali, Indonesia.

The session discussed the prospects of digital transformation for Indonesia and African countries, with a focus on the need for further investment in digital infrastructure to unlock their potential in the digital economy.

Minister Taalat stressed that Egypt’s digitalisation strategy aims to involve the entire society in the country’s digital transformation. Programmes are underway to develop the skills of employees providing services, and there are plans to launch digital services that meet the needs of all citizens and promote electronic signatures and digital identification of customers in government transactions.

Talaat said about 400,000 people underwent digital skills training programmes last fiscal year. 

The minister emphasised the importance of supporting youth in freelancing and entrepreneurship, as well as enhancing their capabilities in outsourcing and exporting digital services. 

On the sidelines of the forum, Talaat met with Budi Arie Setiadi, Indonesia’s Minister of Communications and Informatics, discussing strengthening co-operation in the field of communications and information technology. The two sides agreed to open new avenues for co-operation so that Indonesia can benefit from Egypt’s projects and initiatives in digital transformation and skills development.
