Egypt inaugurates president
Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi was re-elected to the post in December
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi officially assumed office as head of state for the third time, taking the constitutional oath of office before members of the country’s parliament (House of Representatives).
The inauguration ceremony took place in the new administrative capital of Egypt. The event was broadcast by the office of the head of state.
“I swear by God to protect the republican system, to respect the constitution and the law, to safeguard the people’s interests,” Al-Sisi announced.
Egypt held presidential elections in December 2023. 40 million or 89.6 per cent of voters cast their votes for the incumbent head of state. After the results were announced, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi addressed the nation in a speech in which he said: “The choice of my candidature for the mission of leading the country is a responsibility that I bear in good faith.”
