Egypt and UNIDO discuss new programmes and projects

They cover 23 initiatives with a total funding of US$58 million

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir met in Egypt with UNIDO’s Egyptian Representative Patrick Gilabert. The meeting discussed the organisation’s programmes and projects in the country, covering 23 initiatives with a total funding of US$58 million. 

The projects are aimed at providing technical support to local industries, focusing on energy efficiency and eco-care, as well as on developing projects. This is reported by

The Minister noted that the Government was actively working on the effective utilisation of renewable energy to meet the country’s energy needs. He stressed the importance of cooperation between UNIDO and the Ministry’s technical centres to deepen local production of components for solar and wind energy.

Priority areas of cooperation with UNIDO include wastewater recycling, seawater desalination and the production of desalination pumps. 

The UNIDO team presented projects to improve energy efficiency in sectors such as fertilisers, metallurgy. Initiatives such as the Green City project, aimed at reducing energy consumption in tourist cities, and the Inclusive Green Growth project, which supported 140 small businesses in Egypt, were discussed.
