Egypt and China emphasise investment and trade in bilateral relations
Egyptian official stressed the importance of deepening ties with China to integrate Egypt into global supply chains
Egypt seeks to strengthen its economic ties with China, emphasising investment and trade. This was announced by Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Egypt Hassan El-Khatib during a meeting with members of the Egyptian-Chinese Business Council on Monday, reported by
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.
El-Khatib noted that boosting investment for exports is a key element of the country’s economic policies and emphasised the importance of coordination among government institutions to increase merchandise exports.
The minister pointed to the need to deepen ties with China to integrate Egypt into global supply chains, including facilitating the import of intermediate goods to further export final products. This is also due to the growing interest from Chinese businesses to relocate various production facilities to Egypt, which offers numerous competitive advantages and proximity to major global markets.
Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Presidential Advisor for Health Affairs also noted the growing interest from China in the health sector in Egypt, especially in the production of medical devices and pharmaceutical products.
The attendees agreed to organise joint promotional visits for Chinese investors interested in the Egyptian market to showcase investment incentives and highlight the most attractive areas and projects for investment, as well as expand the establishment of free and investment zones ready to accommodate targeted Chinese investments.
