EFF opposes Expropriation Act but will defend it against FF Plus

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says although they don’t support the recent Expropriation Act, they will oppose any court bid by the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) against it.

President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Bill into law last week. The Democratic Alliance (DA), the FF Plus and Afri-Forum have vowed to challenge the Act in court soon.

Malema says they will oppose anyone who stands in the way of returning land to landless black people.

He was speaking to SABC News on the sidelines of his visit to Relebogile Secondary School in Khutsong, west of Johannesburg.

“We don’t support the Expropriation Act because it’s cosmetics. It’s not the real act of doing anything people just want to be seen to be doing something because it doesn’t resolve the return of the land into the hands of rightful owners. It talks about expropriation with compensation to justify a willing buyer and a willing seller. So we don’t support the Expropriation Bill in its form but we will go to court to defend it against the rightwingers because in SA we are not happy with it we are not happy with Freedom Front Plus and their friends. So any attack that comes from Freedom Front Plus is going to make us be on the same side with Ramaphosa when we go to court.”
