Dubai upgrades traffic signal control system with AI for smarter mobility
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s strategy to become a smart and sustainable city
Dubai has launched a major upgrade to its traffic signal control system, integrating artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, and digital twin technology to enhance traffic management across the emirate.
The next-generation system will be implemented at all major intersections and is expected to be fully operational by mid-2026. This is reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s strategy to become a smart and sustainable city, leveraging advanced technologies to optimise road network efficiency and traffic flow management. The upgraded system is designed to reduce congestion at intersections by 10-20 per cent, improving travel times for drivers, public transport users, pedestrians, and cyclists. It will also prioritise emergency vehicles and public transport, ensuring smoother and more efficient mobility.
A key component of the system is its ability to adapt to real-time traffic fluctuations, using AI-powered data analysis to make intelligent signal timing decisions. The initiative is also designed to support future vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) connectivity, enabling direct communication between smart vehicles and traffic signals.
This innovation will contribute to reducing travel times, enhancing road fluidity, and improving overall urban mobility in Dubai, the source claims.
