Deputy President Mashatile’s Christmas message

Deputy President Paul Mashatile touched on various aspects as 2024 comes to a close.

He highlighted the country celebrating 30-years of democracy, the Springboks holding on to the number one spot in World Rugby, Bafana Bafana qualifying for the AFCON tournament next year as well as Tyla winning a Grammy.

Mashatile spoke about the historic national and provincial elections that saw the formation of a Government of National Unity.

“This year was also in some respect a turbulent one for many South Africans, with wavering events that tested our resilience and unity as a nation. I would like to thank all South Africans for having participated in a free and fair elections on the 29th of May this year. The outcome of this election sent a clear message to political parties in our Parliament to work together to find solutions to the problems that our people are facing.”

He also mentioned the economic challenges faced by many.

“Our economic challenges remain a constant feature in our struggle to reduce the cost of living. We remain committed to bringing under control the rising cost of transport, electricity and the cost of food that has become a huge burden to many South Africans.”
