Days of Russian cinema are held in India

They attracted over five hundred and fifty spectators

The Days of Russian Cinema
organised by the Russian House took place in Chennai, India. A special feature of the festival was that local audiences were able to watch a Russian film dubbed in Tamil for the first time.

Days of Russian cinema lasted two days, gathering over five hundred and fifty spectators. For them were organised screenings of films that have been very popular with Russian filmgoers in recent years – “Starry Mind”, “Air” and “The little humpbacked horse”.

In an exclusive commentary to TV BRICS, Alexander Dodonov, Director of the Russian House in Chennai, said that Indians learn about Russian culture through cinema.

“I would like to draw attention not so much to the unusualness of Russian cinema for Indians. I think it is much more important to say that, given the traditionally high interest in cinema in India, our films are becoming a universal key to understanding Russia, to the disappearance of barriers between our peoples. This becomes possible thanks to an important discovery that I am sure each of our viewers makes: despite our differences, Russians are concerned with the same themes as Indians: love, hate, justice, beauty. In my opinion, just such an insight can be the most vivid, memorable and valuable for the Indian viewer,” he emphasised

The first film was shown with dubbing in Tamil, a language common in this part of India. All the films attracted the attention of the Indian audience. They thanked the festival organisers for the opportunity to see Russian films in their native language.
