Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says more skills development programmes will be implemented in the province to make young people especially those living with disabilities employable.
Mabuyane is delivering the first State of the Province Address for the seventh administration at the Eastern Cape provincial legislature in Bhisho.
He says there is a need to transform the skills eco-system particularly in Artisan Development, Emerging Contractors Development, Youth Brigades, Agricultural Entrepreneurship skills and Graduate incubation.
“We are now introducing a uniquely Eastern Cape project, the Basic Education Employment initiative, which will benefit 28 000 unemployed youth throughout the province. For instance, we are going to place 180 young people living with disabilities, on an assistant Chef programme to equip them with culinary skills. This is a caring government in action.”
