China tests engines of launch vehicle for manned lunar exploration project
Three YF-100K rocket engines were synchronously started and switched off on schedule
The ground test of the engine for the first stage of the Long March-10 launch vehicle was successful, as reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Long March-10 is a new-generation three-stage launch vehicle developed during the manned lunar exploration project.
The launch vehicle is 92.5 m long, with a launch mass of 2,189 tonnes, a launch thrust of about 2,678 tonnes, and a payload capacity to the Earth-Moon transition orbit of at least 27 tonnes.
The Long March-10 modification is designed to carry astronauts and cargo to the space station. Its length reaches about 67 m, takeoff weight – 740 tonnes, launch thrust – about 892 tonnes, payload to Earth orbit – at least 14 tonnes.
During the test, three rocket engines YF-100K were synchronously started and switched off on schedule. All parameters of their operation were normal, the academy said. According to the plan, the second engine test for the first stage of the launch vehicle will be conducted in the near future.
