The Beijing Forum within the framework of the Second World Conference of China Studies has started in the capital of China. This is reported by
CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.

About 100 sinologists from more than 40 countries are taking part in the event. The meeting is dedicated to the study of Chinese civilisation and international cooperation in modernisation.

According to Lu Kang, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the forum plays an important role in building cultural dialogue and exchange, as well as strengthening international ties among sinologists from around the world.

For his part, former Erik Solheim, UN Environment Executive Director and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations praised the contribution of Chinese culture and civilisation to human development. He noted that global modernisation should take into account the peculiarities and interests of each country.

Duan Peng, president of Beijing Language and Culture University, which is hosting the forum, added that one of the key tasks of modern sinology is to understand China’s role in the transformation of the modern world and to show the world the image of a multifaceted and open China. He also stressed the growing importance of global cultural exchanges, which are realised by translators and country historians.

The opening ceremony was followed by speeches by leading Chinese scholars. The forum participants stated that the diversity of civilisations and interaction among them played a role in driving progress.

In addition, the inauguration of the Global South Institute, established to promote cultural cooperation among developing countries, was timed to coincide with the opening of the forum. It is noted that the new centre will contribute to the development of Chinese studies.
