China opens laboratory to provide advanced meteorological services to the energy industry

This is an essential step towards building a new, more sustainable energy system in the country

The laboratory, set up jointly by the China Meteorological Administration and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will help use meteorological data to better exploit energy resources. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

This is especially important for the development of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydropower.

The lab will conduct research in the areas of:

wind and solar energy forecasting;

meteorological disaster warning;

artificial intelligence in the energy sector;

offshore wind energy;

intelligent operation and maintenance of the energy industry.

The lab will also focus on the construction of new energy and new power systems.
