China increases imports of fresh durian from ASEAN countries

Since April, the land port has cleared more than 56,000 tonnes of fresh durian, most of which came from Thailand and Vietnam

According to official data, the Youyi Guan Port in Pingxiang city in South China’s Guangxi region has significantly increased imports of fresh durian from ASEAN countries since the beginning of the year.

Guangxi customs authorities said that after inspection at the port, the boxes of durian are delivered to major logistics centres in the city and then distributed nationwide to consumers. This is reported by
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

Xu Weipeng, a cargo agent of a local logistics company, said that due to the improved efficiency of the land port and the development of cold-chain transport technology, durian sales rose 20 per cent year-on-year.

Customs data showed that in the first quarter of this year, the value of fresh agricultural products imported through Youyi Guan Port was 2.15 billion yuan (US$300 million), of which fresh durian accounted for 86 per cent at 1.85 billion yuan (US$260 million).

In addition, the land port has cleared more than 56,000 tonnes of fresh durian since April, most of which came from Thailand and Vietnam. Consumers in China are increasingly savouring the popular tropical fruit as imports through Youyi Guan Port continue to grow.
