China inaugurated a new high-speed railway

In the Chinese province of Sichuan in the south-west of China, traffic on the new high-speed railway was officially opened. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The design speed of trains on this branch is 350 kilometres per hour. The new main line connected the provincial capital Chengdu with the cities of Zigong and Yibin. It has a total length of 261 kilometres and 12 stations.

According to Zhang Zongwei, head of the construction contractor, the new railway line has 231 bridges and 29 tunnels due to the difficult terrain.

The new line is an addition to the existing line between Chengdu and Guiyang with a design speed of 250 kilometres per hour. These lines form a ring between Chengdu and Yibin.

By reducing travel time on the Chengdu-Zigong-Yibin line, it will help integrate the Chengdu-Chongqing economic ring of Yibin and Zigong, which are located in southern Sichuan Province, as well as cities in neighbouring Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.
