China and Russia launch high-tech natural gas pipeline to enhance energy security
For the first time in China, explosion-proof, rail-mounted inspection robots have been deployed to monitor key sections
A state-of-the-art natural gas pipeline linking China and Russia began operations, marking a new step in energy collaboration between the two nations. This is reported by
CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.
The pipeline boasts an annual capacity of 38 billion cubic metres and spans over 5,000 kilometres, connecting Heihe in Heilongjiang Province to Shanghai.
The project was nearly a decade in the making and traverses nine province-level regions. According to the source, the pipeline will play a pivotal role in stabilising natural gas supplies in eastern China, particularly during peak demand periods this winter and spring.
What sets this pipeline apart is its use of advanced automation technologies. For the first time in China, explosion-proof, rail-mounted inspection robots have been deployed to monitor key sections.
These robots, equipped with cameras and infrared imaging devices, autonomously conduct inspections, significantly reducing the need for manual monitoring.
The robots operate seamlessly, performing pre-programmed tasks and collecting data in real-time, enhancing safety and efficiency.
This development not only strengthens energy security but also represents a major stride in leveraging advanced technology to modernise large-scale energy projects.
