China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS) has added 19 new titles to the list of recognised occupations, reflecting the changing landscape of the workforce.

The new occupations include network presenters (similar to live broadcast presenters), specialists in the application of generative artificial intelligence systems, cultural and creative product planning and operation engineers, intelligent production system operation and maintenance administrators, and bioengineering technicians.

In addition to the new occupations, the MHRSS has recognised 29 existing occupation types, including mobile operating system application designers. This recognition allows workers in these occupations to benefit from relevant national policies. This is reported by

Last October, the ministry received more than 430 proposals for new occupations, more than double the number of applications submitted in 2021. These proposals mainly came from areas such as business services, manufacturing and information technology.

Technological innovation fuels job creation

China’s technological advances and industrial modernisation are creating many jobs, especially in high-tech and emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, big data and smart manufacturing. Data shows that careers in these fields are attracting an increasing number of graduates in 2023, with a particular focus on intelligent manufacturing, AI-generated content and variants of large AI models.

One emerging profession, virtual architect, uses AI algorithms to create virtual worlds, mainly for the gaming industry. This profession is expanding to include various online scenarios such as 3D meeting rooms, online press conferences and virtual museums.
