The 3rd BRICS+ Digital Competition Forum will be held in Rio de Janeiro on 22 November. The event is coorganised by the BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre.
The Forum aims to bring together representatives of academia, civil society and competition authorities from BRICS+ countries to discuss the current challenges of digital markets. Participants from Brazil, India, Russia and China will focus on topics related to artificial intelligence (AI) and competition law.
Speakers at the event will include Camila Pires Alves, Commissioner of Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE), Lilian Marques, Chief Economist at CADE, Liang Li, Associate Professor, China University of Political Science and Law, Jia Kai, Associate Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and others.
The first session, on ecosystems and competition policy, will explore new theories of harm related to ecosystem dominance as well as international enforcement approaches. In the second session, experts will discuss the digitalisation of food value chains and assess antitrust risks in the food industry.
In addition, participants will focus on the concentration of economic power in AI. In particular, in the third session, they will explore the implications of AI partnerships and commercial agreements in the digital sector. The final discussion will focus on the regulation and use of AI technologies from a fair competition perspective.
The Russian government has supported the activities of the BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre in 2019. Its work is aimed at preparing recommendations and developing approaches to competition policy that reflect the interests of the development of the economies of the association’s states.
