BRICS countries to establish registry of contact points for sharing information on computer attacks

The Parties reaffirmed their commitment to the peaceful use of ICTs

The BRICS countries will create a register of contact points for the exchange of information on computer attacks and incidents. This is reported by the
Russian Foreign Ministry following the 10th meeting of the association’s working group held in Moscow to discuss security issues in the sphere of information and communication technologies.

“An important practical result of the work was the decision to form a register of BRICS contact points for the exchange of information on computer attacks/incidents in the expanded membership of the participants,” the ministry said.

The ministry noted the partners’ positive response to Russian proposals to strengthen the regulatory and legal framework for cooperation between the BRICS countries. The BRICS delegations agreed to continue close cooperation on all aspects of international information security (IIS) on multilateral platforms.

The Parties reaffirmed their commitment to the exclusively peaceful use of ICTs and bridging the digital divide. The participants of the event agreed to jointly promote these principles in the UN, in particular, in the Open-Ended Working Group on IIB and the Ad Hoc Committee for the development of a universal convention on combating information crime.

The event was opened by Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Delegations from Egypt, Iran, the UAE and Ethiopia took part in the meeting for the first time.
