Brazil’s processed meat production grows by 13.2% in 2023
Data compiled by Brazil’s Good Food Institute (GFI)
With Lula’s return to the presidency in January 2023, meat has once again taken centre stage in Brazilians’ diets. A study by the Brazilian Good Food Institute (GFI), shows that 56 per cent of respondents have consumed beef protein two or more times a week in the last year, up significantly from 47 per cent in 2022.
At the same time, 39 per cent of respondents said they also consumed plant-based protein occasionally in 2023.
Meat producers are aware of this diversity in dietary preferences and are expanding their marketing strategies to include plant-based products. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
The vegetable substitutes market in Brazil grew 38.1 per cent to R$1.13 billion (US$213 million), while the overall global market grew 10.2 per cent to US$6.36 billion.
