Brazil’s northeast region sees record growth in economic activity
Data provided by the country’s Central Bank
The Northeast region’s economy was the fastest growing in the country in the first quarter of 2024, according to the IBCR-NE economic activity index of the Central Bank of Brazil (Bacen). The index grew by 3.2 per cent compared to the same period last year, exceeding the national average of 1 per cent. Such a result has not been seen since March 2015.
Experts note the significant contribution of the trade and services sectors to this achievement. In addition, the increase in investment in the region contributes to the further development of the economy.
It was also noted that an improving labour market, rising incomes and lower inflation are contributing to an overall increase in economic activity in the North East. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
