Brazil takes action to promote support for family agriculture

The representatives of Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service and the Ministry of Agrarian Development are strengthening co-operation to support family farming

In Brazil, Sebrae Nacional’s President, Decio Lima (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service) met with the Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, with a special focus on family agriculture.

Family agriculture plays an important role in the Brazilian economy, accounting for 23 per cent of the total value of agricultural production and employing some 10.1 million workers, representing 67 per cent of all occupations in the industry.

The Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, emphasised that cooperation on several fronts will allow the expansion of food production in Brazil. He noted that it is necessary to work on technical assistance, access to credit and the market. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

In addition, thanks to the partnership with Sebrae, family farming can count on support. Sebrae has capitalised its R$2 billion (US$392 million) Guarantee Fund for new operations that will provide loans totalling R$30 billion (US$5,8 billion) over the next three years.
