Brazil introduces facial biometrics in intercity buses
In the state of Rio de Janeiro, intercity minibuses will be equipped with a biometric face validator to improve safety.
This measure will be introduced gradually until October 2025. The first batch of vehicles will be equipped from January 2025, according to
Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
Rio de Janeiro’s Transport Minister Washington Reis notes that thanks to the new technology, passengers will be able to feel safe while travelling, using a public subsidy for different modes of transport, in accordance with the established rules.
It should be noted that when the system is fully implemented, the validator will become mandatory for the entire fleet of minibuses, and vehicle owners will be given a one-month period to adapt to this requirement.
