The 352nd sitting of the Governing Bod ysaw the transfer of the presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) Working Group on Employment from Brazil to South Africa.

The meeting, which brought together representatives of labour ministries, international organisations and social partners, also set priorities for 2025 and reflected on the achievements of the current year. This is reported by official website of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Under Brazil’s leadership, significant results were achieved, including the adoption by the Minister of Labour and Employment of a Declaration focusing on decent work, equitable growth and transitions within the G20 economies.

As the new Chair, South Africa presented a vision for 2025, focusing on inclusive growth and youth employment, gender equality in the labour market, addressing inequality and labour income share reduction, as well as digitalisation and creating an inclusive future of work.

“The commitment to creating formal jobs and promoting decent work stands as the most effective tool for achieving more equitable income distribution. We remain committed to supporting the Employment Working Group’s crucial mission to shape a fairer, more inclusive future for all workers,” Director-General of International Labour Organisation (ILO) Gilbert F. Houngbo explained. 

The ILO also reaffirmed its support for G20 initiatives as well as its commitment to social justice.
