Brazil car sales up 15.4% in May

577,000 vehicles were sold last month

Sales of new and used cars rose 15.4 per cent in May this year compared to the same month last year. A total of 577,000 units were sold nationwide, including light vehicles, motorbikes and heavy equipment. 

Car sales totalled 2.8 million units over the past year. This figure represents a 24.4 per cent increase over the same period in 2023, equivalent to an increase of around 559,000 units. It is also the best figure for the first five months of the year since 2011. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The light vehicle segment saw a 14.4 per cent increase compared to May 2023 and a 6 per cent drop compared to April. Heavy vehicle financing rose 12.8 per cent year-on-year but fell 5.1 per cent year-on-year in April. The number of motorbike loans this month was 18.1 per cent higher than May 2023 and 1 per cent lower than April.
