Antibiotics are removed from standard of treatment for acute respiratory viral infections in Russia
The Ministry of Health has shortened the average treatment period for such diseases
The Russian Ministry of Health has
issued a new standard for the treatment of adults with acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI). The document now prescribes the possibility of visiting specialists such as pulmonologist, obstetrician-gynaecologist and haematologist.
How to treat acute respiratory infections now
The agency considered it necessary to add several drugs for the treatment of acute respiratory infections and exclude antibiotics to the standard of care for such diseases. Only antiviral drugs can be used, their list is extended.
The order specifies that pulse-oximetry has been added to the list of instrumental diagnostic methods. However, the list of diagnostic laboratory tests has been reduced in general (from 30 to 11): FGS (gastroscopy), FBS (bronchoscopy), complex ultrasound of the abdominal cavity organs have been excluded.
Acute respiratory viral infections: how long to treat
The agency has halved the average period of treatment of acute respiratory viral infections – from 15 to 7 days.
The Ministry of Health has expanded the list of nosologies covered by the new standard. It includes coronavirus infection, adenovirus infection unspecified, acute nasopharyngitis, tracheitis, acute laryngitis and others.
