ANC supports Zelenskyy’s SA visit in April

The African National Congress (ANC) says it supports President Cyril Ramaphosa’s hosting of his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy next month.

Zelenskyy will be in the country to discuss bilateral relations and current global issues.

ANC’s First Deputy Secretary General Nomvula Mokonyane and also the party’s Sub-Committe chairperson on International Relations says they are not taking any cue from anyone on who should visit South Africa.

“We support the visit. Remember we are non-aligned in this and remember we were the first to go when it was not fashionable. We took a risk. The ANC called for South Africa to intervene and our President and the South African government went and therefore even under these circumstances we are not taking sides and we are not taking cue from anyone. We are pursuing our foreign policy. So, we are looking forward to him coming and give us a progress report about some of the commitments he had made in our relationship.”
