ANC regains control of Northern Cape’s Hantam Municipality

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Northern Cape won back control of the Hantam Municipality in the Calvinia area in a crucial by-election yesterday.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) won the ward during the local government elections in 2021.

Northern Cape ANC Chairperson, Dr Zamani Saul, says this is the third municipality they’ve regained in by-elections in the last three months.

They regained the !Kheis Municipality in an October by-election, the Karoo Hoogland Municipality in a by-election in early December and the Hantam Municipality yesterday.

Electoral Commission (IEC) provincial manager, Bonolo Modise says, “Yesterday’s by-election went very well. There were three parties contesting – the DA, the Freedom Front Plus and the ANC. The ward was won by the ANC. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the by-election. It was very peaceful and had no incidents.”

The ANC welcomes the recent by-election results and expresses its full gratitude to the people of Ward 7 in Hantam Municipality, Namakwa Region for their strong demonstration of commitment to the ANC#LetsDoMoreTogether pic.twitter.com/vGQA9fBEXV
