Ambassador of Russia to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin: Ethiopia’s membership in BRICS during Russia’s chairmanship has deepened bilateral relations
Ethiopia and Russia are actively deepening their bilateral ties and expanding multilateral co-operation, according to Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin. He told this in an interview with
ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to him, relations between the two countries are becoming stronger after the leaders met at the first and second Russia-Africa summits in 2019 and 2023.

The ambassador expressed hope that co-operation would become more prominent, especially in areas such as energy, mutual trade and food security. He also highlighted the growing economic partnership, emphasising efforts to increase trade and investment.
“We see not only well-developed bilateral relations, but also joint participation in the BRICS format,” he said, adding that cooperation within the BRICS framework will provide better opportunities for countries to strengthen bilateral ties, emphasising the importance of political dynamics.
Ethiopia’s membership in the BRICS during Russia’s chairmanship has deepened bilateral relations, he said.
Finally, the Ambassador pointed to the increase in the number of scholarships for Ethiopian students as well as efforts to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples.
On 1 January 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Egypt became full members of BRICS.
