Lobby Group, AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel says if government does not accede to their demands on the Basic Education Law Amendment (BELA) Act, they will be left with no option but to head to the courts.
Trade union Solidarity and AfriForum marched against clauses 4 and 5 of the BELA Act, stating that the act takes away the right of the school governing bodies to make important decisions about admissions and language.
Kriel says failure to heed to their demands means that government would have declared Afrikaans as the enemy.
He says, “It would be that the government will be declaring Afrikaans speakers as the enemy because that is what is happening if you target their schools, but we will then going to take legal action because our legal team is already prepared, but hopefully it won’t come to that so we can have a broad coalition of people saying that mother tongue education is important.”
