China’s Henan province becomes major player in laboratory diamond cultivation
Using advanced technology, companies in Henan have perfected the art of diamond cultivation, turning the province into the world’s leading centre for lab-grown diamonds in less than a decade.
Industry experts explain that there are two main methods of creating lab-grown diamonds: the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) method, which produces a one-carat diamond in just one to two weeks, and the high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) method favoured by Chinese manufacturers, which accounts for the majority of the world’s man-made diamonds produced using this technology.
Once the diamonds are grown, skilled workers design, cut and polish the gemstones, selecting only the highest quality ones in terms of colour, grit and clarity. This is reported by
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.
Today, China has become the leading diamond producer worldwide, with the country accounting for more than 90 per cent of global production.
