Following a recent ministerial visit to Iran, Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care deputy minister Sleiman Kwidini has said Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran will benefit from co-operation in the health sector.

At a press conference in Gweru, Kwidini noted Iran’s self-sufficiency in the production of drugs and medicines, with about 75 per cent of medicines used in the country being produced domestically.

He expressed Zimbabwe’s intention to follow a similar path and learn from Iran’s experience in the pharmaceutical industry. This is reported by

The deputy minister noted the presence of Iranian experts in Zimbabwe who are working to develop the pharmaceutical sector and drug production in the country. He emphasised the importance of cooperation between the two countries to enhance their capabilities in the health sector.

Zimbabwe and Iran have signed several memoranda of understanding in various sectors including health, agriculture and mining to further strengthen bilateral co-operation.
