Brazil holds auctions for electricity transmission projects in 14 states
An auction was held in Sao Paulo to determine the companies responsible for the construction and maintenance of 6,400 kilometres of transmission lines in 14 states. R$18.2 billion (US$3,6 billion) is expected to be invested in 69 projects, which will create 34,900 jobs.
The states where the auction is planned include Alagoas, Bahia, Ceara, Mato Grosso do Sul, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Piaui, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo and Tocantins.
Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira noted the outcome of the auction. “We are working to transform the electricity sector in economic and social development, guaranteeing greater energy security and opportunities for the population. We are strengthening our system so that we can distribute all the renewable energy produced in our country,” he said on social media. This is reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
Fifteen stretches of transmission lines in 14 states have been handed over to the private sector. The work is aimed at expanding the base grid in the northern North East to provide power to the already contracted power plants in the region, as well as expand the capacity to connect new generation projects and meet the growing local demand.
