The Egyptian government has released a document that outlines the country’s IT strategy

The document sets goals for the IT sector for the next six years

The official document “Strategic Directions for the Egyptian Economy” outlines the Egyptian government’s strategy to form a free zone for communications and information technology (IT) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

The document also states the government’s main goal to increase the production of fibre optic cables by establishing 20 factories, and transform Egypt into a leading regional fibre optic cable production centre to serve the domestic market and increase exports, mainly to Africa. This is reported by

The government plans to place Egypt among the world’s top 10 countries in the cyber security index by 2030. The country currently ranks 30th.

The document sets some goals for the IT sector for the next six years. The government intends to increase the IT sector’s contribution to GDP to at least 7 per cent, up from 3.4 per cent in the fiscal year 2021/2022. It also plans to increase the number of mobile towers to 45,000 by 2030.

The document also outlines the government’s strategy to create a digital and sustainable society by 2030. Plans include completing the development of Egypt’s digital services system, automating the state administrative apparatususing technology, and establishing a closed government network. The document also states the government’s intention to provide some public services digitally, such as electronic visa issuance and a digital insurance system for foreigners.

According to the document, the government plans to double the number of IT students and reach a number of one million by 2030.
